The Visionary: Meet Negramoji

Darlene (Rivera) Haywood (Moji) is La pasión behind Rich Port Regalos. One of four siblings born & raised in South Jersey, Darlene always felt a profound connection to her Taíno heritage. Her rich complexion, long, wavy black hair, and striking Afro-Latina features often drew comparisons to Yuiza Loíza, the legendary last Taíno queen, famously depicted in Samuel Lind's renowned painting. This resemblance wasn’t just physical—it was spiritual, a connection nurtured by the stories and love of her maternal great-grandmother, a figure she deeply admired.

Though she grew up stateside, Darlene’s summers were spent on the island of Puerto Rico, where her grandparents owned a store and pool hall. These formative experiences gave her a dual perspective—one foot in the vibrant island life and the other in the diaspora experience of the mainland. This blend of identities became the foundation for her deep understanding of what it means to be Puerto Rican—on the island and beyond.

The Vision: Why Rich Port Regalos Was Born

After years of attending Puerto Rican festivals, Quinceañeras, concerts, and family gatherings, Darlene noticed something missing—a bold and authentic representation of Puerto Rican pride in everyday fashion. While cultural clothing often leaned on the traditional red, white, and blue of the Puerto Rican flag, Darlene wondered: "What if we embraced the full spectrum of colors to tell our stories more vividly?"

Rich Port Regalos was born from this realization—a brand that blends modern urban fashion with deep cultural roots. Darlene envisioned clothing that doesn’t just scream pride at cultural events but carries that same energy to the grocery store, a night out, or a morning workout.

“There are so many idiosyncrasies about what it means to be Puerto Rican, whether you grew up on the island or stateside,” Darlene explains. “I wanted to express those in a way that’s powerful, thought-provoking, conversational, and fashionable.”
